The Beginning
In the year 2005, two visually impaired people, Eshwar and Issac came together to form Gnanajyothi Trust with a vision to help their blind brothers and sisters in their education and thus empowering them to live life with dignity. Initially the place of operation was near monotype, Banashankari, Bangalore. Later the activities were shifted to IAR India on Mysore Road and finally to the present place of operation i.e., Shri Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, Syndicate Bank Colony, Bangalore - 79.
Start up
Initially the Trust started Braille transcription in a small shed with just one Brailling machine and without any finances even to support their families. It was a great struggle for both of them. But their spirits were high. A couple then residing in Jayanagar were the only source of encouragement and support and they continue to be main fund raisers for the Trust. The Trust found support from IAR India on Mysore Road, Bangalore who gave them an additional Brailler and a roof to operate.
In course of time, the demand for Brailling of text books increased. On knowing about the trust a couple from Vijayanagar started visiting us at IAR India regularly and were supporting the cause of the trust in all possible ways and continue to give their unconditional support even to this day. Eventually part of the Trust operations were shifted to the couple's residence at Vijayanagar, Bangalore. Shortly after that, the awareness about the Trust among the residents in Vijayanagar grew and the Trust started acquiring few more Brailling machines and was able to Braille even more books. Amendment to the Trust was made and registered on 10-07-2008 with the induction of Smt. M.L. Manjula [Treasuer] and Smt. Padma Maiya [Managing Trustee].
Take off
The President, Secretary and the Trustees of Sri Shirdi Sai Charitable Trust in Syndicate bank colony Magadi main road Bangalore - 79 were kind enough to offer us very spacious and comfortable operational space within their Temple premises. Here the Trust started seeing the light through the tunnel as more and more volunteers came forward to support our cause and by donating us additional Brailling machines and desperately needed financial assistance backed by their regular presence for reading of print material to Braille format. The Trust is getting regular supply of Braille paper required from Sri Shirdi Sai Charitable Trust.
